Love in Action (LIA) is a non-profit, non-political charitable association registered in the Republic of Cameroon under Law N°. 90/053 of 19/12/1990. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data with transparency, care, and respect. We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it to us, for example, when you submit a contact form, make a donation, apply to volunteer, or sign up as a member. The types of information we may collect include:

  • Payment information (processed securely by PayPal or Stripe, we do not store card details)
  • Donation amounts and transaction references
  • Volunteer application details including skills, availability, and areas of interest
  • Membership registration information

We do not collect sensitive personal data (such as health information, ethnicity, or political views) unless you choose to share it with us voluntarily in the context of a specific program or application.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your enquiries and communicate with you
  • To process your donation and send you a receipt or acknowledgement
  • To manage your volunteer application and coordinate your involvement
  • To register and manage your membership in the Association
  • To send you updates about our programs, activities, and impact, only if you have opted in
  • To meet our legal and financial record-keeping obligations as a registered association

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not use your data for commercial advertising purposes.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent: When you voluntarily submit a form, make a donation, or sign up to receive communications from us.
  • Contractual necessity: When processing is necessary to fulfil a donation, membership registration, or volunteer arrangement.
  • Legitimate interests: For internal administration, record-keeping, and improving our services.
  • Legal obligation: Where we are required to retain financial records under Cameroonian law and our Articles of Association.

5. How We Store & Protect Your Data

Your personal data is stored securely and accessed only by authorised members of the LIA team who need it to perform their responsibilities. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

Online donations are processed through GiveWP with PayPal and Stripe, both of which are internationally recognised, PCI-DSS compliant payment processors. LIA does not store your card or payment details on our servers.

Bank transfer details you provide to us are handled with strict confidentiality and used solely for the purpose of identifying and acknowledging your donation.

6. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy, or as required by applicable law. Donation records are retained for a minimum of seven (7) years in accordance with standard financial record-keeping practices. Volunteer and membership records are retained for the duration of your engagement with LIA and for a reasonable period thereafter.

7. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share your data with the following categories of parties only where necessary:

  • Payment processors: PayPal and Stripe, for the sole purpose of processing your donation securely.
  • Service providers: Our website hosting provider and email platform, who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal authorities: Where we are legally required to disclose information by Cameroonian law or a competent court.

8. International Donors

If you are donating from outside Cameroon, including from Germany, the European Union, or elsewhere, please note that your data may be transferred to and processed in Cameroon, where LIA is headquartered. We take appropriate steps to ensure your data is handled with the same level of care and protection as required in your home jurisdiction. Our use of PayPal and Stripe ensures that payment processing meets international security standards.

9. Cookies

Our website may use cookies, small files stored on your device, to improve your browsing experience. Cookies may be used for analytics, performance tracking, and payment processing (via PayPal and Stripe). You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some parts of the website.
